Ahhh, food...

My mum (I can call her that)!! She is making me dinner!

The recipe is easy.

Firstly, you take a large pot, with water in it, make the water boil, add a shake of tumeric, and a shake of chili, and a slosh of apple cider vinegar, put in some rice. If mum uses the smaller of the two big pots she has, then she put 4 mugs of rice, if she uses the bigger of the two, then she puts in 6 mugs of rice. Then, she adds the best bit, 1 tin of mackerel broken into bits, and 1 tin of pink salmon, again, broken into bits. She then leaves it to cook gently until the rice is cooked.

Now, mum has reasons for all these ingredients.

She learned from somewhere that apple cider vinegar is good for my internal workings, and it gives my coat its wonderful shine.

She adds tumeric, simply because she discovered  that I prefer yellow rice! Apparently it won't do me any harm!

Chili is there to make me fart! (did I say that out loud, he he he!) Apparently it helps keep me regular! (in the poop department, and makes my breath something special.)

The rice is carbs! I'm a highly active puppy, and mum likes me looking a little meaty, though she often complains to me that she can see my ribs no matter how much food she gives me!

Then the fish! Mmmmm mmmmmmm ... The fist has oil and other stuff. Apparently dogs like me can get hip and other joint issues. So she is feeding me all the good stuff to reduce the possibility of that in my old age! The fish also has bones in it, so I get calcium!

And for an extra special treat, she sometimes mixes into the cook rice a kilo of minced offal from the butcher. She gets it frozen and she partly defrosts it, then mixes it in so it mostly stays raw! That too is good for my tummy! Helps my tummy continue to work properly!

Then as dessert, I get some bones! Raw from the butcher! My dad buys these for me! He stores them in the freezer and I tell ya, on a hot day a frozen bone or 2 is just the best cooling treat!

Wishing you many happy barky days! (and good eating)

A little about me

I am an almost 2 year old German Shepherd. My mum calls me a big handsome boy, and a few other things, that I won't repeat here! I don't want to ruin my reputation...

Firstly though, there is something I need to clear up.
My name is Hannibal. And when mum or dad, or the cub, tell people my name, it is almost instantly assumed I am named after a fictional movie character who enjoyed eating his own kind with a bottle of some drink... That is not who I am named after.
On the contrary, if you do a little research into Roman history, you will find the crazy man I am named after!

Oh, I've just realised that I haven't changed my profile photo... Oreos mug is still up there! I might need mums help for that! She knows where she stores all her photos of me. But that will have to wait a while. She's a bit sick at the moment. Then again, the cub and dad are a bit sick too! I'm the only family member (other than Clever, the yabby) who is healthy!

If I was allowed to, I would climb on the bed and keep mum warm. But, I'm not allowed on the beds. Mum says I would take up too much room.

I don't really like other dogs, so I guess that's why I'm not miss Schadows first choice in a dad. We didn't really get along when I went to meet her! I'll blame Lucy for that. See, when I was a tiny pup, I'd only been in my forever home a few days, when Lucy (a bitser-mongrel) decided  to hop over the fence and show me her huge teeth and stinky breath. Now, even though I was a bit mean to Razzy the cat, he jumped into the frey and protected me. This small fluffy cat bashed a dog to protect me. Granted, he didn't like Lucy either! He protected me several times from that wayward dog. And even now, Lucy gets out of her yard and takes herself for a walk. Leaving her owners wondering where she's gone this time. She doesn't come into my yard anymore. I told her off after she upset Razzy when he was sick.

And as for Razzy. Mum still misses him, and she hugs me for comfort! I like mummy hugs, however, she won't let me lick away her tears.

I know I have a forever home. And its not just because mum and dad paid a lot of money for me. My belly is hardly ever empty. I have toys and a blanket. I get hugs and pats. I get brushed. And I have the spot on the floor right in front of the fire. During summer I can walk in and out of the house at my own leisure. I wish every dog had such loving parents.

Well, I think I'd better go... Got a house and yard to guard!

Wishing you many happy barky days!

Thought I'd drop by

I'm going to try and post more often! But, there are no guarantees!

Ah, where to start?

Well, firstly there are as yet no new cats to play with.

Recently I had a barking complaint against me. Apparently I bark too much!

Wow, there's been a lot happen since I last wrote!

I've celebrated my first birthday, and my second birthday is a few months away!

My mum has hurt her wrist. She thinks I may have had a paw in that! My family left me alone for two nights (for the first time, ever!) while they went to see a Dr a long way away! Then the other day she went and saw a different Dr  at a different place. He hurt her and made her cry! Good thing dogs aren't allowed in hospitals!

Lets see, what else has happened...

I had a skin condition around my neck where my collar goes - it's cleared up, but mum and dad are reluctant to put my collar back on me! I don't think I need it, as mum said, it was only there to hold my name and phone number tag to my neck! I don't wander like other dogs, so I don't think I need a tag!

Ooh, here's something... I threw up a chunk of bone last night, on the floor, and, and, I was still allowed to stay inside! I guess when Oreo threw up, he made a big stinky mess! Cause he lost his inside privileges!

Anyway, I'll keep you posted on this complaint thing. I reckon I know who made it! But who cares! I'm still gonna do my job!

Wishing you many happy barky days!

Arrrwooofff!! :)

Hello everybody!

I am Hannibal! The happy hairy dog!
I am a German Shepherd boy!

I love my new home and recently had to say goodbye to the resident cat! He and I didn't get along so well! It seemed that he didn't really like being my toy! He tried to shred my ears, he pulled out my hair, mouthfuls at a time! My mum had to come and remove his beard! (It was actually my hair all over his chin!)

When he wasn't hissing, snarling, trying to shred me, or punching me - he was a nice cat!

I tried to help my dad dig the hole to bury the cat, but I wasn't allowed to help! I kept getting in trouble for dropping my toys in it!

I love my toys! Mum and Dad got me a squeaky bone (which doesn't squeak any more), I have Oreos old kong and wheel, and I have a tug-o-war rope, a dumbell, and some balls!

I'm allowed to sleep inside during winter! And most people love me! Those that dont are the ones I bark at!

I only bark at them because they insist on bringing their dogs near my yard! And there have been some who seem to want to cause trouble! I dont let them in the yard!

Mum says that I'm a great guard dog! And I'm already bigger than Oreo was - and I'm not a year old yet!

I ride in the car! I get left in the car with my head hanging out the window - dad doesn't lock the car when I'm in it! Other people dont want to come near the car! I defend it like I do my house and yard!

I have been told I am loud! My grandmother (whoom I have not met yet), says she can hear my growl and my "quiet" bark when she is talking on the phone to my mum!

And one other thing - my mum says that there is someone I need to meet! Her name is Schadow! She is a German Shepherd, like me! And her mum is "mate" shopping! And apparently I am a vaguely possible "shoe in" for the position of dad! :)

And I heard just the other day that we will be getting two new cats! But mum wants a cat run built first! I'm not sure what a cat run is! I wonder if it has anything to do with sports! :) Either way - two new cats equals twice the fluffy fun! And possibly twice as many shredding attempts on my ears!

Here's to a happy life at my new forever home!
Barks to you all!
Hannibal!

sad day

This post is brought to you by Razin Kasheikh.

It is my sad duty to inform all of Oreos readers that he recently died! My humans think that Oreos death was the result of a snake bite! Oreo never really did have any smarts when it came to repitles.

He had a home burial in the back yard!

As a consequence, I've had no bash buddy! Oreo - why did you have to die?

The good news is that a new dog is coming to live here! And he will maybe continue on with this blog! That may take a while - he is only 7weeks old!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! But you had to be told!
